What Happened To Dave Canterbury From Dual Survival?

Dave Canterbury was one of the co-stars of the first two seasons of "Dual Survival" along with Cody Lundin, the man who never wears shoes. However, in 2012, he announced he would be leaving after just the first two seasons. Originally, he said it was because he wanted to pursue other passions, but there was actually another reason.

Dave Canterbury and the Discovery Channel had a two-year contract. However, when it came time to decide whether or not to renew the contract, Discovery Channel decided not to move forward. In his apology video, Dave said, "There were more than one reason for that that I was given, but one of those reasons were discrepancies on my initial resume that I turned in for 'Dual Survival.'"

For Season 3 of "Dual Survival", Dave was replaced by Joseph Teti, who stayed on the show until Season 6. So, although Dave clearly had a lot of experience when it comes surviving in the wilderness, what were these "discrepancies" that were found on his initial resume?

Dave Canterbury's claims of having 20 years of survival skills in the military, including time as a ranger, survival scout, and airborne trainer, were all exaggerated. According to information unearthed by wilderness blog Wood Trekker, he only served for around 6-7 years. 

Though he did lie about his past, he actually knew a lot about survival and living in the woods. During his apology video, he said he did it to share his experiences in the great outdoors, such as what steps to take if you get lost in the woods. "I didn't do it to hurt anyone. I didn't do it to make things difficult for anyone in my family. I actually did it to, number one, better my family. And number two, to be able to bring the skills that I teach to a mass audience."

After Dave left the military in 1988 (over 20 years before taking the Discovery Channel job), he spent as much of his time as possible outside. He even created his Pathfinder School to share the information. Dave thought the show would be a perfect way to give the general public more survival skills to prevent the most common ways people die in the wilderness from happening. Though he's no longer sharing his knowledge on TV, Dave is more than eager to teach people. He's still the owner and an instructor at the Pathfinder School in Ohio.
